Asthma can affect people in different ways. However, even if you have only what's regarded as 'mild' asthma, it's very important to have travel insurance that you know will cover any claims that might be directly or indirectly related to your asthma. If you don't and you need to make a medical expenses or other claim, it could be declined. We specialise in providing travel insurance for people with medical conditions, including asthma. We receive referrals from hospitals, GPs, clinics and medical charities from all over the UK. We do need to ask you a few questions about your asthma, in order to understand how it affects you. We will then be able to tell you if we can provide cover and, if so, what the premium is. You can book the policy in the same call, if you wish. What are the implications for travel insurance and asthma? 'Standard' or 'ordinary' travel insurance is usually not designed to include medical conditions. You could therefore be unprotected against high bills, should you need medical care in relation to your asthma. We have heard of cases where hospitals have refused to treat someone unless they can prove their insurance will cover them. Asthma is often well controlled by medication. However, should you get into difficulties and need to see a doctor or need treatment in hospital, isn't it better to know that your insurance will cover you? If it doesn't, you could be opening yourself up to financial risk. Extra costs you might have to meet if you don’t have travel insurance that include asthma Medical bills - especially in the USA - can be very high. You'll need to pay for consultations, tests, examinations, nursing care, medication etc. If you become ill near the end of your trip, you might need to pay for new return air fares. If a partner or travelling companion has stayed on with you, new return fares will need to be bought for them, also. If someone has stayed with you, they may incur extra accommodation costs. It is therefore very important that anyone travelling with you is covered by our policy so that any claim they need to make that could be in any way regarded as linked to your asthma will be met. An 'ordinary' travel insurance might decline their claim on the same grounds as they might decline a claim made by you. It's just not worth not having specialist travel insurance that includes cover for asthma!
