'Standard' travel insurance is often not designed cover medical conditions such as diabetes - you need a more specialist travel insurance policy, such as ours. We are experienced in providing cover for a very wide range of pre-existing medical conditions. These days, treatments for diabetes often mean that you can lead a much more normal lifestyle, which needn't preclude you from travelling and going on holiday in the same way as anyone else. Obviously we can't guarantee to cover absolutely everyone with diabetes - it will depend on your individual circumstances and we do need to talk to you about these. Our medical screening staff will ask you some questions about your diabetes and any other related areas of health. This will help them to build up a picture of your particular situation. The questions aren't meant to be intrusive, rather to ensure we have as much detail as we need to be able to tell you if we can include your diabetes in our policy. You can go through the medical screening process either online or over the phone. What are the travel insurance implications if I have diabetes? Most people are concerned that if they become when they're away, their medical costs will be covered. If you've declared your diabetes to us and we've accepted it in our cover, then your medical costs will be covered. Not only those, but if you're unable to go on your trip because of medical reasons, the costs you've incurred will be met. If you're ill towards the end of your trip, new travel arrangement costs will be met as well as extra accommodation costs. This will also apply to a partner or travelling companion who has stayed with you. It is therefore very important that anyone travelling with you is covered by our policy so that any claim they need to make that could be in any way regarded as linked to your diabetes will be met. An 'ordinary' travel insurance might decline their claim on the same grounds as they might decline a claim made by you.
