Travel insurance if you have glaucoma

travel insurance including glaucomaWe regularly provide travel insurance to people who have glaucoma. In fact, we receive referrals from hospitals, GPs, clinics and medical charities from all over the UK.

Some people may think that having specialist travel insurance if they have glaucoma isn't necessary. However, if you don't declare that you have glaucoma when you take out insurance it's very unlikely to be covered by the policy. If you then need to make a claim that's even indirectly linked to it, it will probably be declined. Examples of such claims could be if you fall and injure yourself or are involved in an accident. An insurer might decide that the claim was linked to your eyesight.

If you've declared your glaucoma to us and we've accepted to cover it, claims related to it will then be met. That's why, in our opinion, it's essential to have travel insurance that includes your glaucoma. Otherwise, you could then be exposing yourself to serious financial risk.

Obviously we can't guarantee to cover everyone with glaucoma - it will depend on your particular situation.

Our experienced staff will need to ask you how your glaucoma affects you, what treatment you're on etc. They will then be able to tell you if we can provide cover and, if so, give you a premium quote. You can also arrange the booking of the policy with them.

What are the travel insurance implications if you have glaucoma?

We've mentioned already the kind of claim that might be relevant.

Additionally, if you're not able to return home on your expected date and you need to make new travel arrangements and maybe even stay in accommodation longer, these costs will be covered - not only for you but also if a partner or travelling companion has stayed with you. It is therefore very important that anyone travelling with you is covered by our policy so that any claim they need to make that could be in any way regarded as linked to your glaucoma will be met. An 'ordinary' travel insurance might decline their claim on the same grounds as they might decline a claim made by you.
