Travel insurance if you have had a stroke
When someone has a stroke, it can be a worrying – even frightening – thing. Obviously not all strokes are the same – some are more serious than others and the effects can vary and for differing lengths of time.
The questions that usually goes through people’s minds can include ‘How will this affect my life? What will I be able to do and not? Will I still be able to go on holiday and obtain travel insurance that will include the fact that I’ve had a stroke?’
We specialise in providing travel insurance for people with pre existing medical conditions and can often include the fact that someone’s had a stroke in our travel insurance policy. We receive referrals from hospitals, GPs, clinics and medical charities from all over the UK.
It is essential that you do declare that you’ve had a stroke when taking out travel insurance. If you don’t, you could be leaving yourself open to serious financial risk.
Obviously we can’t guarantee to cover everyone who has had a stroke – it will depend on your individual circumstances. We will therefore need to ask you some questions, which will give us an understanding of your individual circumstances.
The quickest and easiest way is to go through our online medical screening process, which keeps down costs and therefore premiums.
What are the travel insurance implications if you’ve had a stroke?
A great concern is that, should you require medical conditions while you’re away that are related to having had a stroke, then these will be covered.
As long as you’ve declared to us that you’ve had a stroke and we’ve confirmed that claims related to it will be covered, then associated medical costs will be met.
We will also meet your cancellation costs if, on medical grounds, you’re unable to begin your trip.
If you need to extend your stay and have to re-arrange your return home and, in the meantime, incur extra accommodation costs, these are covered by the policy. If a partner or travelling companion has stayed with you, then their costs will also be met, provided they’re also insured with us. It is therefore very important that anyone travelling with you is covered by our policy so that any claim they need to make that could be in any way regarded as linked to your stroke will be met. An ‘ordinary’ travel insurance might decline their claim on the same grounds as they might decline a claim made by you.
