Travel insurance if you have had a thyroid condition

travel insurance thyroidWe can often provide travel insurance that includes cover if you have a thyroid condition (subject to a telephone medical screening). This can be either hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. We specialise in providing travel insurance for people with medical conditions. In fact, we receive referrals from hospitals, GPs, clinics and medical charities from all over the UK.

Obviously we can't guarantee to cover everyone who has a thyroid condition - that's why we need to ask you a few questions, so we understand your individual circumstances. We'll then be able to tell you if we can provide cover and, if so, what the price will be. If you'd like to go ahead and book the policy, you'll be able to do so in the same phone call.

What are the travel insurance implications if you have a thyroid condition?

Standard travel insurance usually isn't designed to include cover for claims, directly or indirectly related to a pre-existing medical condition. This includes conditions that are well controlled by medication, including thyroid conditions. If you take out an 'ordinary' travel insurance, there is always a danger that if you become ill, the insurer might determine that your cliam is linked to your thyroid condition and therefore decline it. This opens you up to potentially, very serious financial risk.

Extra costs you might have to meet if you don’t have travel insurance that include thyroid conditions

Medical bills can be very high – these can include consultations, tests, investigatory examinations, nursing care, medication, physiotherapy etc. If you need to be repatriated, these costs can also be very high.

New return air fares may need to be bought, not only for the person who has the thyroid condition but also for a partner or travelling companion who accompanies them home.

Extra accommodation may need to be booked for a partner or travelling companion who stays with you.

It is therefore very important that anyone travelling with you is covered by our policy so that any claim they need to make that could be in any way regarded as linked to your thyroid condition will be met. An 'ordinary' travel insurance might decline their claim on the same grounds as they might decline a claim made by you.

It's just not worth the risk of not having specialist travel insurance that includes thyroid conditions!
