Oops, did you travel without insurance? We can get you back on track
If you’ve had a joint replacement, you are probably looking to travel as part of your recuperation or because of the new lease of life that you’ve found. We speak to people every day that have had various joint replacements including both hip and knee replacements; the overwhelming consensus is that they are better than the original!
We have been covering medical conditions for more than 20 years and we can’t stress enough the importance of letting your insurer know of any medical history that falls within the medical declaration questions. Once the screening is complete, and we have accepted the risk to insure your joint replacement, you will be fully covered should you need to make a claim before or during your trip. If you fail to declare your condition, and an incident arises that is either directly or indirectly related to your pre-existing medical condition, the claim could be denied.
In England and Wales there are approximately 160,000 total hip and knee replacement procedures performed each year, so you can imagine just how frequent these conditions are screened for travel insurance. Before taking to the skies you should discuss your travel plans with your GP or consultant. There is often a recovery period following surgery, during which they may advise against travel. Once you’ve recovered, the world is your oyster!
Our specialist travel insurance policies are designed to give you peace of mind and the knowledge that you are fully covered should you suffer any complications with your joint replacement whilst abroad. If your replacement joint has given you the freedom to engage in sports and activities again, look to our policy add-ons for all your activity requirements.

Applying for travel insurance once you have finished treatment could, in some circumstances, reduce the premium and make the cover easier to obtain. However, if you need the cover to start whilst you are still receiving treatment because you have a holiday booked and need cover for cancellation, you will need to declare the treatment and we will quote accordingly.
Our pre-existing medical condition policy is not available for one way trips. Your trip must start and end in the UK. View our One Way Trip product for a more suitable policy.
We do not need the names of the medication or the dosage, only the condition that the medication is prescribed to treat or prevent.
