Oops, did you travel without insurance? We can get you back on track
As a specialist travel insurance provider for pre-existing medical conditions, we regularly provide travel insurance to people who have gastro-oesophageal reflux, whether you suffer from mild symptoms such a heartburn or have a complex condition that leads to more severe symptoms. Reflux is often a side effect of medication that is prescribed to treat heart conditions such as atrial fibrillation or heart failure.
Is reflux really a pre-existing medical condition? The simple answer is yes. However, with more than 25% of UK adults suffering from some degree of reflux symptoms, it’s easy to overlook when taking out travel insurance, especially if you are declaring more serious medical conditions. Whilst it may seem a minor in relation to your underlying medical conditions, we need to account for any prescriptions to ensure you are fully covered in the event of a claim.
If you suffer from severe reflux symptoms, you are probably already aware of how to manage your condition and travelling abroad with reflux is no different. It’s always recommended to keep your head propped up to avoid worsening symptoms and consider regular movement during travel as seatbelts can aggravate symptoms of GERD, these tips are especially important during longer flights. If you require daily medication, stay aware of the difference in time zones and stick to your usual routine.

Applying for travel insurance once you have finished treatment could, in some circumstances, reduce the premium and make the cover easier to obtain. However, if you need the cover to start whilst you are still receiving treatment because you have a holiday booked and need cover for cancellation, you will need to declare the treatment and we will quote accordingly.
Single trip cover is available for trips up to 365 days in duration depending on the policy type selected.
We do not need the names of the medication or the dosage, only the condition that the medication is prescribed to treat or prevent.
