Oops, did you travel without insurance? We can get you back on track
High blood pressure or hypertension rarely has noticeable symptoms, if untreated it can increase your risk of strokes and heart problems. Your GP surgery will be able to check your blood pressure and normally prescribed medication to keep it under control. Whilst having high blood pressure is a common condition, you need to declare this to your insurer to make sure you are fully covered for anything that could be directly or indirectly related such as heart conditions or strokes.
The NHS suggest that around a third of the adult population have high blood pressure with common factors such as stress, diet high in fat/salt, family history, lifestyle factors and chronic conditions likely to increase your blood pressure levels. Most of our specialist products do not charge any additional premium if your blood pressure is medicated and well controlled.
Our main concern is providing you with adequate cover for your personal needs and that's why we won't sell a policy unless we can cover you for everything including any pre-existing medical conditions. Regular travel insurance is not usually designed to include cover for a pre-existing medical condition, even if your prescription is only precautionary. This means that should you require medical attention or need to cancel for any reason that’s directly or indirectly linked to your blood pressure, a regular policy may well decline your claim. If you’re planning a holiday and have medication prescribed to control your blood pressure, it’s important to obtain cover including any pre-existing conditions and to declare this at the time of taking out travel insurance. This would ensure that if any complications were to arise either prior to or during your trip which are deemed related to the blood pressure, such as a stroke or heart condition then you would be covered for this.
Our prices are based on a person’s current state of health at the time of taking out a policy and our medical screening process gives us an indication of the severity of your condition. If you have high blood pressure and cholesterol or any of the related conditions, we will tailor a policy that specifically meets your individual needs, making sure you have the right level of cover for your trip.
When you go on holiday make sure you have significant medication to keep your blood pressure under control for the duration of travel.
