Based on a report from Macmillan in 2015, there were an estimated 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK. We don't believe in restricting your travel, especially when your consultant has given you the greenlight to jet off on holiday! As medical travel insurance experts, we cover cancerous conditions on a regular basis so even if you've been told your condition is rare or you are awaiting further treatment, we are usually able to find a solution for you. Our quotes are based on so many variables that we can never guarantee an offer of insurance but we will always endeavour to find you suitable cover. In the rare scenario that your condition is beyond our scope of cover, we'll be able to recommend other insurers that can help.
We speak to and insure people every day that are living with cancer or need to find cover for their pre-existing condition. Here are a few of the questions we are frequently asked:
If you are undergoing treatment for cancer, such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy, we may still be able to make an offer of insurance. However, applying for travel insurance once you have finished treatment could, in some circumstances, reduce the premium and make cover easier to obtain. If you need cover to start sooner as you have a holiday booked and need cover in place for cancellation, you will need to declare your treatment and we will quote accordingly.
If your cancer has spread from the primary location to lymph nodes or to other parts of your body, we can still look into travel insurance cover for your trip. Whilst we can never guarantee an offer of insurance, we'll always endeavour to find you suitable cover. If you have struggled to find insurance cover to date, please call us on 0330 606 1422 and speak to one of our travel insurance agents.
There are no medical conditions that we automatically decline to cover. Our medical screening questionnaire is designed to gauge an accurate understanding of your medical status at the point of quote, so we'll need to know about any condition that falls within our declaration including any ongoing treatment. Annual multi-trip cover can be more difficult to obtain with some types of cancer, but in these cases, we'll be able to look into single trip options for you. If cover is declined online, please call us on 0330 606 1422 to discuss your options.
Before you reach the point of medical screening, you'll be asked if you are waiting for or expecting any treatment in the future; if you answer yes to this question, cover will be unavailable online. However, there are many cases where we can still provide cover over the phone so it's always advisable to speak with us to discuss your circumstances. Many cancers allow us to account for upcoming treatment and factor this in when quoting your insurance premium.
